A traitor is defined as “a person who betrays a friend, country, principle, etc.” By this definition, those who support Donald Trump and his agenda can be considered traitors to the principles of American democracy and the Constitution itself.
Trump and his followers have undermined the very foundation of our democracy, starting with the relentless propagation of the “Big Lie” that the 2020 election was stolen. Despite losing over 60 court cases, many of which were presided over by Trump-appointed judges, they continue to push this false narrative, eroding public trust in our electoral system. This betrayal of facts and reality is a direct attack on the principle of free and fair elections, which is a cornerstone of our democracy. Trump and his enablers have worked to subvert democratic norms by attempting to overturn legitimate election results through intimidation and legal manipulation. His efforts to pressure state officials, including the infamous call to Georgia’s Secretary of State to “find” votes, and his role in inciting the violent insurrection on January 6th, are clear acts of betrayal against the United States. These actions fit the definition of treasonous behavior, as they are attempts to subvert the will of the people and maintain power at any cost.
Our founding fathers never imagined that such a man could be a candidate for President. To honor their legacy, it is the duty of every American to vote for Kamala Harris and the Democratic Party in 2024, ensuring our system has the time it needs to hold him accountable for his actions and pending litigations.
In 2016, Trump was unprepared to win. He was trailing by 16 points nationally on election day and lacked the political experience to effectively push his agenda until a considerable time after being in office. This time, however, he has a far more dangerous plan in place. As you all know, Project 2025, which Trump claims to know nothing about this year, was something he openly discussed in 2022 as part of his plan. We now know the Heritage Foundation President spoke to him about it, and his new Agenda 47 plan contains the same anti-American elements of Project 2025. Trump will be prepared.
On day one, he plans to replace every government employee with individuals loyal to him and his anti-democratic, anti-scientific, and outright ignorant plans. These new government employees will prioritize loyalty to Trump, his lies, and his delusional ideas above the Constitution and the principles that have upheld our democracy. Once these loyalists are in place, the functioning of government as an American institution will cease to exist. America will have effectively been overthrown, with the final pieces being every bit of erosion he can achieve with the help of his corrupted SCOTUS and Republican members of Congress. Project 2025 training videos state that they “must remove every reference to climate change” and reverse efforts that allow LGBTQ individuals to live peacefully. Reversing our progress on Climate Change, as he did in his first term, puts every American at risk because he values oil baron donors more than the lives of Americans.
Keep in mind, nearly 200 Republican members of Congress failed to certify the election—an unprecedented and traitorous action based on no evidence other than their loyalty to a compulsive lying rapist and convicted fraud. I’ve read thousands of views from Republican voters, and yet, I have not seen a fully informed and fact-based argument defending a vote for Trump or even the Republican party in 2024. If anyone can present such an argument, I’m open to having my mind changed. But from where I stand, supporting a man who has openly attacked the institutions that uphold our democracy, who seeks to turn our country into an authoritarian regime, is nothing short of a betrayal of America.
In contrast, the Democratic Party upholds the principles of democracy, justice, and equality. While I’m open to dialogue and debate, the facts remain clear: supporting Trump is not just a political choice; it’s a choice to betray the very values that define us as a nation. The future of our democracy depends on recognizing this and acting accordingly.
