How I see Musk’s purchase of Twitter (8 pm Mon night)
I think that Musk bought twitter simply to bolster candidates that offer an immediate and direct financial benefit to himself. Fueled by greed and completely unable to recognize that when you lift all of society up, everyone benefits, Musk aims to ensure society always directly benefits him, the richest person in the world.
Evidence suggests that Musk’s willingness to lose billions on Twitter is politically motivated, aimed at shaping a more Republican-leaning America for his financial benefit, at the expense of everyone subjected to the misinformation elevated on his platform.
Musk’s changes have facilitated the spread of misinformation and disinformation. Under his leadership, Twitter withdrew from the EU’s Code of Practice on Disinformation, weakening safeguards against false information. This withdrawal came even as other platforms strengthened their commitments to combat misinformation. Musk’s disregard for controlling false information creates an environment conducive to political narratives that align with his interests.
His restructuring of Twitter’s verification system to a paid model has further diminished the platform’s credibility. Verified news organizations and trusted voices have been sidelined, making it harder for reliable information to gain traction. Musk has used company resources to promote Donald Trump and has forced his own misleading content onto users. Recently, he promoted an AI-generated video meant to harm Kamala Harris without clarifying it was satire, and he’s going viral today for posting an image equating Kamala with communism—an absurd claim to anyone reasonably informed. Yet, he leverages his power to reinforce this incredulous Republican tactic.
Musk and his investors stand to benefit from Trump’s tax cuts for billionaires, while Kamala Harris’s plans have billionaires shaking in their boots. For the first time since Reagan created extreme wealth inequality in America, we have a chance to correct the trickle-down economics lie, which is why a greedy, disturbed individual like Elon is doing everything he can to stop it.

Elon Musk uses Twitter to amplify and spread misinformation and here’s a clear example: he posted a deceptive AI-generated image claiming that Kamala Harris would become a communist dictator on day one, which aimed to flip the fact that Trump actually said he would be a dictator on day one.

Elon Musk, Donald Trump, and certain policies they support can be linked to ideologies that resonate with those embraced by Nazis, particularly in their appeal to nationalist and authoritarian sentiments. Both Musk and Trump have shown tendencies to undermine democratic norms, spread misinformation, and foster divisive rhetoric that mirrors propaganda techniques used by authoritarian regimes, including Nazi Germany. Furthermore, their promotion of policies that disproportionately favor the wealthy elite and their emphasis on “law and order” often align with exclusionary and hierarchical views that were central to Nazi ideology.

The Independent wrote an article about Elon reposting a theory on X that advocates replacing democratic governance with a system led by “high-status males,” suggesting that only “high testosterone alpha males” and “neurodivergent people” can truly think freely. This controversial theory, which emerged from alt-right circles like 4chan, dismisses women and “low T men” as incapable of objective decision-making and claims a “Republic of high-status males” is best for governance. Musk’s endorsement of this idea, whether as a provocation or genuine belief, aligns with his history of amplifying divisive and misleading content under the guise of “free speech.” He promotes sexist, exclusionary, and toxic ideologies. Elon Musk makes society less informed, less tolerant, less kind, and less empathetic, as we are all dragged along on his personal journey to escape fair taxation.

Elon Musk is clearly amplifying misinformation and propaganda on Twitter/X, much of it designed to dumb down Americans and influence them to vote in a way that benefits him—specifically for Republicans who corruptly prioritize his interests over those of the general public. I initially set out to tell a singular story about the money Elon has lost on his eXperiment, but in writing it, I realized just how much harmful content he spreads. So I turned this into almost a full day of covering his attempts to subvert democracy. Elon Musk harms all of us for his personal financial gain, just like Donald Trump.
